Cal Jader welcomes Brooklyn based tropical producer / DJ Andy Gillis aka Uproot Andy in the studio for a run through some of his biggest productions and remixes and to talk about the New York latin scene and Colombian carnival amongst other things. Plus new and classic tunes from Brasil to Peru, Ecuador, the Caribbean and beyond.

A Lusophonic special, partly inspired by the new Space Echo psychedelic Cabo Verde compilation from Analog Africa and guest Portuguese musician Catarina Dos Santos who brings a selection of inspirations from Angola, Cabo Verde and Brazil plus some of her own music.

Cal Jader introduces another edition of Movimientos joined by guest Carolina Nunes in the studio playing tracks from and discussing the forthcoming La Linea festival and talking new Brazilian music including Nomade Orquestra, Elza Soares and Sociedade Recreativa. The show also features upfront music from Thornato, Daymé Arocena, MAKU Soundsystem and ZZK's new Ecuadorian offshoot label Aya, as well as new releases from Venezuelan Afro-futurists La Gallera Social Club and something from the new Sonido Tropico compilation out of Sâo Paulo.


Another Movimientos show packed with new and classic music from Latin America and beyond with some Fania All Stars and Joe Arroyo sitting alongside recent releases from Uproot Andy, La Yegros and Systema Solar as well as as Romanian band Fanfare Ciocarlia venturing into the realms of cumbia on a recording of Fiesta De Negritos with one of our favourite Colombian bands Puerto Candelaria. And Cal is also joined by Eliane Correa in the studio to discuss Cuban music and her new project En El Aire following the release of the album 'Rumba Con Flores'

Cal Jader is back from Cuba with a mini mix of new Cuban Reggaeton and Timba plus upfront new music from Elza Soares, Bixiga 70 and Dayme Arocena as well as a brand new Fania Records remix by Jose Marquez and a Berimbau triplet by way of a tribute to influential Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelas.

Movimientos: Summer 2014 Rewind

First show back of the new season and we go into summer rewind mode with tracks from some of the artists, djs and producers that passed through London throughout the summer and from some of the best Movimientos live shows that we hosted including the outstanding Cumbia All Stars, Juanito Ayala and the Frikstailers amongst others. Plus a nod to our world cup festival Joga Bola with tracks from Nina Miranda and Daniel Haaksman and a salute to the Colombian football team with the Salsa Choke track Ras Tas Tas. As well as one of the tunes of the summer from Magic Drum Orchestra and certainly one of the best live Latin bands of the festival season La Chiva Gantiva.

Cal Jader drops a more dance floor orientated show of Latin beats starting with a exclusive Aroop Roy summer anthem remix of Jorge Ben. Plus a Lambada - Dancehall mash up, Brazilian Hip Hop, Rastarinha, digital Cumbia and following his great recent show in London a track from the last Caetano Veloso album.

In the first live show of the new season Movimientos' Cal Jader brings the usual across the board eclectic Latin mix. With exciting new tracks from maracatu-afrobeat maestro DJ Tudo, psychedelic salsa from New York's La Mecanica Popular and dub fused with Colombian chachacha and salsa rhythms from Colombian band Tucuprá. Plus tracks from artists appearing at forthcoming Movimientos events Malphino, Orquestra Contemporanea Da Olinda and Family Atlantica and Cumbia beats from Quantic and Uproot Andy. And a special dedication to the new daddy DJ Arias with the classic Hector Lavoe 'El Todopoderoso'.

Cal invites Mais Um Discos label boss Lewis Robinson to the studio to discuss the label's acheivements releasing some of the freshest new music from Brazil with tracks from key artists on the label Lucas Santtana, Graveola and Siba as well as music from the brand new compilation Daora: Underground Sounds of Urban Brazil, and songs from Amazonian female divas Dona Onete and Gaby Amarantos.

We welcome renowned Brazilian female percussionist Simone Sou and Mariana Pinho (Maracatudo Mafua) into the studio to break down a selection of some of the essential roots rhythms from Brazil's North Eastern region of Pernambuco including Maracatu, Afoxe, Coco, Ciranda and Cavalo. There's also tracks from Simone's various projects with some fusions of Maracatu, Jazz and eastern rhythms.

As part of an all Brazilian special today's Movimientos show features special guests from SALVADOR, BAHIA as part of their Bass Culture Clash tour Os Nelsons and QQuadro drop by to play some of their music and discuss new Brazilian musical movements. Also new music featuring Criolo and Chico Cesar, new Forro and dubby Hip hop from BNegão as well as London based Brazilian music from Da Lata and Heidi Vogel.

In honour of the sadly departed Venezuelan revolutionary (a dying breed) MADERA plays some kerazee high octane latin music amongst the usual mix n blend. La Luta Continua!
