Talking Ethnomusicology

Talking Ethnomusicology is a series of interviews recorded as part of the Department of Music Seminar speakers series.

Professor Helen Rees, Chair of the Department of Ethnomusicology at UCLA, talks to Rachel Harris about music and Intangible Cultural Heritage in China. Helen Rees' research centres on the south-western Chinese region of Yunnan, especially on its Dongjing ritual instrumental ensembles. Here she talks about the changes which have been brought about following the introduction of UNESCO-led programmes to preserve traditional culture, and the links which are being made between cultural and environmental preservation.
