The Bungalow Road Electro Show

'Democratic South Africa is 20 years old. There are 11 official languages, a vast array of cultures and traditions and… the biggest market of electronic house music in the world! As a result, a diverse and talented pool of electronic artists has developed since the dawn of democracy.
The Bungalow Road Electro Show plays all things electronic and South African, spanning the last 20 years. Expect to hear sounds from Joburg to Cape Town, big names and underground demonstrating the eclectic and vibrant scene of electronic music in South Africa.'

Bassist, composer and performer Shane Cooper came to SOAS Radio in between gigs in London and Switzerland to talk about his latest musical projects and output as electronic artist Card On Spokes, and the latest release from South African/Swiss collaboration SkyJack. We covered the topics of collaboration, the writing process, favourite Johannesburg live music spots and some of Shane's past jazz projects.

The Bungalow Road Electro Show is back. Including a Gqom Oh! prelease, a brand new single from Batuk (A new collective formed by Spoek Mathambo, Nandi Ndlovu, Aero Manyelo and Carla Fonseca), electro, pop and a 1980s classic from Sipho Mabuse. Theo Gotz is the studio guest.

Fresh from his gig at Hoxton Square bar alongside Okmalumkoolkat, The Bungalow Road Electro Show had the pleasure of welcoming Thor Rixon and manager Tourmaline Berg to SOAS radio. We covered the topics of Thor’s album ‘Tea Time Favourites’, his performances at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton, their music agency Naas Collective and collaborations with Umlilo, Amy Ayanda and many others. The Bungalow Road Electro Show was massively excited to welcome to the studio electronic music pioneer Spoek Mathambo, maskanda multi-instrumentalist Bhekinso Cele and Paris-based Congolese drummer Cubain of Fantasma . We talked about the formation of Fantasma, influences and inspiration, Spoek’s documentary ‘Future Sound of Mzansi’, collaborations with other artists and played tracks from their ‘Eye of the Sun’ EP and recently released album ‘Free Love’.
