Anatolian Pop

“Maddening Music from the Homeland!”

The chimes of freedom that rocked the entire world in the 60s also created a deep impression on Turkish culture. While the crazed movement reflected upon every type of art, music was the most deeply affected. The budding Western influence in music was accelerated and Anatolian timbers, resonations and instruments became infused with Western pop, rock and funk, sparking a trend that would last for decades: Anatolian Pop (Anadolu Pop). As artists and bands that dedicated themselves to this new style came up on the scene, parents went mad up the walls at home wondering what the young ones were up to at these gigs!

During this special one hour program Murat Meriç, who is also an author of the book about the history of Turkish Anatolian Pop Music named “Pop Dedik”, talks and gives indepth information both about the tracks and the era itself that Anatolian Pop was a real hype. Prepare yourself for a long, musical journey led by Murat Meric through the first psychedelic samples of 60s Turkey to Anatolian Pop, with contemporary alternative Turkish creations thrown in the mix.

Entertaining and madly good melodies from the second half of 60s and first half of 70s. Even though artists are widely known (except couple of them) these songs didn’t make a major succes in the market. Another side of the country’s “Pop” music, whose one side is already turned to Anatolia...

This show's context is a little bit mixed. Mostly there are experimental rock songs of middle 70s. Some of them talk about political issues some of them are love songs. A little summary of country's rock music history.
